Shandong Communications Science Research Institute is a key scientific research institution directly subordinate to Shandong Province and the research center of provincial highway and water carriage transportation. It is engaged in scientific research and technology development of highway construction, bridge structure, automobile transportation and water carriage etc. At present, there are totally 11 researchers, 19 senior engineers and 10 engineers in the institute. Technicians account for 80% of the whole staff. Scientific achievements made in recent years have obtained National, provincial and ministerial progress prizes of science and technology for many times. A professional technological team of competent theory and rich practical experience have been cultivated.
     There are four professional research offices in Traffic Scientific Research Institute of Shandong Province: highway and bridge research office, automobile research office, traffic economy research office and intelligence research office of traffic science and technology.
     "The road structure and material lab of Shandong Province affiliated to Traffic Scientific Research Institute of Shandong Province is a provincial key lab equipped with first-class ing instruments of asphaltum and asphaltum concrete. It has kept technology communication and people-to-people contacts with many scientific research institutions and universities both at home and abroad. The projects of "slip & abrasion proof surface study of asphaltum concrete" and "waterproof loss study of asphaltum road surface" accomplished by the institute are in the high flight in China.    
The "inspection center of construction projects of Shandong Province" has obtained the A-grade highway engineering inspection experiment qualification of the Ministry of Communications and is also affiliated to our institute. The center is equipped with advanced experimental apparatus and inspection technology. It also has mature experience in the inspection technology of asphaltum and asphaltum concrete, of cement concrete, of road materials, of road surface structure and intensity, of highway and bridge structure, of the bearing capacity of the groundwork, of the bored pile and mechanical performance ing of automobile and engineering.
     Products developed by the institute , e.g., road surface roughometer, road geometry measuring apparatus, road transect calcimetre, highway mileage marking apparatus, comprehensive performance ing apparatus of automobile, grass spray seeding machine of road side slopes, small -scale raod surface mender etc. are of comparative performance with International like products, lower prices and the advantage of convenient operation etc., so they are widely applied.
     The institute has made achievements in research in professional fields like safety facility of expressway, environment evaluation, inspection of traffic electromechanical projects etc. The service function is enlarging and the institute hoping to strengthen cooperation with various circles.
